John Nickens, PA

John Nickens is from Upcountry, Maui with a background in Family Medicine and training in surgery and Emergency Medicine. His hobbies are surfing less surfed breaks and painting little metal soldier figurines. John was born and raised on Maui. He left Maui after graduating from King Kekaulike High School, to join the Navy. While in the Navy, he was stationed at Naval Air Station North Island and Pearl Harbor. During one of his deployments, they responded when a tsunami struck Sumatra in 2004. It was during this event that John decided to pursue medicine. During John’s ascension within medicine, he has worked as a firefighter, surgical technician, obstetrics technician, EMT, and as a search and extraction medic in the Hawaii Air National Guard. John graduated from Pacific University in Hillsboro, OR in 2019. Shortly after, he was activated with the Hawaii Air National Guard, performing missions throughout Oahu and Maui. After honorable discharge, he worked in Family Medicine before joining the Minit Medical Team at the end of 2021. John recently married, moved to his hometown Makawao, and his first child was recently born. John enjoys working in the urgent care setting because of the wide array of injuries and conditions seen in the clinic. John also likes hearing the interesting stories our patients have, visitors and locals alike. He looks forward to providing great care and answering any questions you may have. Aloha!
